i made the mistake of purchasing LED taillamps for my e46 M3. The lights would only work when the key was turned ON. Otherwise there was a small LED that was lit on each corner. Umnitza neglected to mention how these lights worked and probably a non issue for them as they were flying off the shelves when they first came out.

Since these are aftermarket, make certain you didnt invert any of the connections. The harness used may also not have a firm contact with the factory harness so check those as well.

The only other option i could think of was that your lcm needs programming however the x5 never had an LCD option so i think that's limited to the e46.

Try fiddling with the harness and see how that goes.

good luck,

Usually those LED tails will have built in resistors to prevent this issue. Did you perhaps purchase ones that were designed for a US spec vehicle? Our LED tails come in two versions, Euro and US Spec depending on the vehicle's origin and software coding.

Not sure if this is the same problem. Not my X5(it's on the way), but my VW. I run LED lights for the rear license plate. When they start to go bad, you will notice a lot of flicker. It has something to do with the regulation of the LED's. I have went through 5 sets from diffrent locations, before I have a set that lasts and does not flicker.

The ones levi sell look like my last set that are working well. I will try his out when my x5 gets here. Got his halos LED's in route.
