icelink for 2005 X5
I have a 2005 DSP with CD changer and nav pro and I would like to know the following: how easy is it to install the icelink (it has been suggested that my model does not require the digital to analog converter? Is that true?) and can I do the installation myself? The dealer tells me it would take them about an hour because they need to access the stereo system which is burried in the spare tire compartment!

There is no need to access the radio module. Simply unplug the two CD changer connectors (3 pin and 6 pin) and connect them to the IceLink connectors. Run the cable to whereever you want the iPod located (options are to keep it in the rear, center console bin, glove box, drink holder compartment, etc.) and you are good to go. If you aren't planning to do it yourself, I would recommend taking it to a good stereo installer rather than the dealer. That said, it's a very easy DIY.
With a 2005 you should not need the DSP adaptor. Best way to tell for sure is by looking at your CD changer connections. If one is a coax then you'll likely need the DSP kit. If all you have is the 6 pin and 3 pin connector then you don't.
