New body stlyle

I for one have not liked any single remodel they have done except the 3 series. I have seen the spy photos and immediately made the "face". I like the 00-02 7 series. The 98-01 5 series is also a fav.....the new 7 has grown on me over time but the beauty of the BMW that I always noticed before I become part of the family is that the cars age very very gracefully. I have seen 95 5 series that are as beautiful as the day they rolled out the showroom.

I guess it is a matter of taste and economics. I once sold cars and work in finance now. I could never justify a $60K plus investment in an automobile. I always purchase my cars three to four years old, high end, and low low miles. I let someone else take it on the chin. With my Harley I can get back every penny of MSRP...with a car...never going to happen. I get to play for half the price and live like a rock star while investing in other things.

Although the wife insisted on the new TL....and since she works hard I bent the rule for her, but for myself....I brought an 01 x5 4.4is...twin dvd's, hartage 20's, bull bar, difusers frt/rear, spoiler. with 48K for half price...looks and drives brand new. I am very happy with that.

Just my take.....

OH YEAH!! probably not worth much (since coming from a woman) LOL..but my dealer, (a one woman operation for 15 years) was telling me about a 3 weeks course to "re" familiarize the dealers with the X5 in Munich a coupe of months ago..First q out of my mouth was, "What about the new X?!" She says the spy shots of the winter training in Norway, or Sweden or wherever the hell that was, look NOTHING like what she THINKS it will actually look like..She had the chance to talk to some of the people in the graphic dept, and they showed her a few "pictures" of what everyone seems to like at the "round table"..She said they are EXTREMEMLY tight lipped about that stuff and will not say much at all..Lets all hope and pray...

The biggest reason for me is the fact that is not a big deal for resale..not with THESE things...The new X's wont be available until Oct/Nov of next year, and there are some pretty good deals on '04's and '05's in anticipation of that..It doesnt bother some people to have an old body style..It actually bothers ME a little, which is why I always try to buy the first facelift year of any Bimmer I get, i.e. E36, E46, E53. And buy late for good deals! You still have a couple years left on your body style, and can still make your loot back on them in time. I bought my '04 E46 in June of '04 and sold it a couple months ago for 3 grand markup from new. The X is going this month for 4500 markup. My E90 will be in before November and I will keep it until 3 months before the facelift is available for the same markup...Never a dull moment with these things!

first of all nobody has seen the new x5, the spy pict are too disguised to guess what it will look like and the "photoshoped artist's renderings" floating around are guesses, nothing more. What we do know, is that the new x will be bigger and wider. I like the X the way it is now, I think the size is just right. I also don't feel that the styling has aged. I also think that most of the styling changes will be inside the car, not the outside. They will probably keep the x-drive technology the way it is now. The 3.0 will get the new 3.0 engine.

Like others here, I have low-expectations for the next X5, at least looks-wise. I'm not a fan of the Bangled styling, inside or out. I think the interior of the current X5 is VASTLY superior to the interior of the new 5-er, which is likely what the new X5 interior will look like. And also, if the X5 grows as expected, then it will be heavier, and I dont need a 7-seater.

That doesnt mean that I am convinced it will suck as much as other new BMWs of late, but I'm not willing to waste another year on the hope that the next one might suprise me. I leased my '05 in the thought that if I do like the next one I can trade, and if I dont and if nothing else looks good to me at the end of the lease, I'll just buy it.

Who cares if you have a car with an "old" body style... give me a '65 Vette Z06 and i'll be happy, but then again, it has an "old" body style so maybe i won't be happy ...

I wouldn't buy a first year run car anyway...let them work the bugs out for a couple of years....then you can get the good stuff as stock and not a mod. JMHO
