I drove a 4.8is with the stock 20" Diamari's on the BMW performance center's other worlds course and they did a great job. The course was muddy as it was raining at the time and I had no problem what so ever going up and down the rocks or through the wet dirt.I doubt you will go flying down a dirt road expecting to have the same grip as you would on pavement but you shouldn't have any problems.

The Diamaris are street tires primarily for summer driving. I assume you are talking about the 20's? They are not meant to be an all season or off road tire. I certainly wouldn't put my Diamaris through that especially knowing what they cost! You will get better traction off road with your winter tires.

I'm not going off roading - I just know from experiance (about 5 years back since I've done this type of thing) that these trails I'm driving to get to the *bike trails*, at times, it can be muddyy, etc even though it may be listed otherwise.

Sure wish there was some sort of insurance plan that covered all tire maintainence costs (dismount/mount/blance/tire damage) etc. I've replaced 2 of these damm tires which is more than enough that I would like to remember....

How many miles can you expect out of a staggard set

I am thinking about running a staggard set of 20's and selling my 20 inch Hartge's...I have new good years on those and was wondering what to expect out of the d's?

Diamaris should only be worn when driving on roads. Not paths, not dirt roads, and defintely not mud/snow.

Remember, that's what the X5 4.8is high-performance SAV is shipped with, so you can understand what the Diamaris tires are made for...
