taking off the wheels?

Hi,

I was wondering i took off one of my wheels today to clay it and then put it back on. I just wanted to make sure there is no special procedure i need to go through to put the wheel back on. Do you just screw in the lug nuts? Do they need to be a certain tightness? I just want to make sure i didnt do anything wrong as it wouldnt be good if they came off when i was driving. haha

The tightness recommended by BMW is 10nm. But I simple tighten it with the stock tool and drive

10Nm?? are you sure about that??
Bentley service manual and owner's manual says 140Nm (101 ft-lb)

Sean -

Dunno what your interval is on wheels off/of, but I tend to just do a quick wetsand of of the hub and ALWAYS apply a light coat of antiseize on them whenever wheels come off and on...

It will make you're life alot easier if you swap your wheels as much as my gf changes her outfits ;-)

I may be too late to help you, but start the lugs by hand and work in a star pattern. Do not just go clockwise. Get them snug and then tighten to the correct torque.
