Servotronic
see http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sho...t=57859http:// I hate the servotronic, as I think it makes any level of perfomance driving difficult, as one has no idea of how mucf "force" to apply to the steering wheel. Is it an easy remove a fuse from the fuse box, and end up with a car that I will like driving. I posted earlier that prefered my last X5 which did without sevotronic. Since then I have searched forums etc to find out if its do-able, and there are a few like minded people.

you would have to look at the wiring diagrams but I bet it doesn't have an independent circuit plus it would throw a fault if you did that and it would be way too heavy if you got rid of it

It wouldn't be too heavy, it would be like my last x5, which was easily managable, and I am not a particularly well made fella.
Servotronic is different to active steering. The amount of turns of the steering wheel lock to lock is the same no matter what the speed of the car is, but the amount of force required to turn the steering wheel is less @ low speed making it IMO artifically light, and @ high speed it weights up. With active steering, @ 20mph the steering may only be 1.5 turns lock to lock, and at high speed 5 turns lock to lock for example. The level of force required to turn the wheel may not change. IMO this feels artificial, less feelsome, than my last X5 which went without servotronic steering, making it inferior to drive the way I drive. Apparently e39 owners did this, and it didn't through a fault....
