Finished replacing the rotors and pads on the X last weekend. Finishing up replacing the suspension on the Z3 Coupe tomorrow (It's been a busy week).
After lowering the Coupe I realized I had put it off long enough... I now have to get wheel spacers! The reason is that the lowered geometry of the trailing arm suspension causes significant negative camber, which tilts the top of the rear tires in sooo far, that I now need a 25mm H&R spacer kit to push the tire back out... and further.. into the cool looking zone.
So I hop out of the X to go to work this morning and it hits me. How stooopid have I been all these years NOT to get wheel spacers for the X !! At least the rears. The rear profile is pushed WAAAYY in. 10" rear staggered 19's or 20's have a hub profile that pushes them out by 4 or 6mm I think. But really, the rears are short of where the should be looks wise by at least the 25mm H&R kit. Maybe 30mm.
Or.. maybe not. What's yer opinions guys? Who has done spacers, and how did they turn out? What's the ideal width to push out for looks? Or.. do you think its a mistake?
I realize an even wider stagger at the rear will increase understeer slightly, but I'll be widening the fronts by at least 5mm. Also... then again.. I'm not tracking or auto-x'ing the X5.
