if your speedo doesn't work that is you left rear wheel speed sensor! You should have mentioned this before, speedo is linked to the left rear wheel speed sensor!

Most common problem of the DSC/ABS and Brake light up is caused by malfunction of sensors like speed sensors, ABS pulse sensors or steering wheel angle sensor. However, you must have it diagnosed with BMW DIS system to read the fault code so that you can tell what the problem is. Replacing speed sensor or steering wheel sensor is very simple job and the part is not expensive, but code is needed to make the sensor work. Replacing DSC/ABS module repair kit is also very simple job, but the part is pretty expensive and it must be coded after replacement to make it work and must be adjusted to make it work with steering angle sensor and other sensors.

Yes most modules need to be recoded. However, not all. If there is no speedo reading, 99% of the time it is from the rear wheel speed sensor, because speedo gets it signal from there. Most sensors however, do not need to be recoded. Simple as plug and play and the lights go out. All I needed to do on mine was replace the left rear wheel speed sensor and the lights went out and the speedo worked again.

But you are absolutely correct, get someone to properly read the codes so you don't spend money on arbitrarily replacing components.

hi everyone, i am having a similar(?) problem on my 2002 E39 530i sport. after having the Tv-in-motion enabled the dsc light has come on and will not go off!
this was done by an independant bmw specialist using the Autologic software. when he enabled the Tv-in-motion a fault came up of steering angle sensor, so he reset that and actually 3 lights came on: 1- Abs 2- parking brake 3- dsc. the first 2 went off after he turned off the igniton and locked the doors for 10mins.
but the dsc has remained on since. a few days later i went back to specialist and the fault now showing is " pre charge pump ", it says fault has occured 255 times!!
what the hell! whats he done?
he has the good software but i dont think he knows how to use it properly!

thanks in advance for any advice

cheers

Hi, I remplaced the abs sensor, the dcs unit and all the lights come off, but there are a new problem, the speedo don`t work, my mechanical say that is proble the instruments cluster, what do you think?

if the speedo isn't reading, make sure that your left rear wheel speed sensor is still working before you replace the cluster, I think it's more of an electrical issue than the cluster itself...
