Central Armrest Entertainment Pics (for those with Comfort Seats and Pano Roof) Pics

Here are some pictures of my installation, it is a 4:3 8,5" Screan that is connected to a HDD Media Player (80GB)
The screan it self is originaly roofmounted screan, that i modified to fit in central armrest.

As for now (this is recent install) Rear passengers can listen to audio trough FM radio headsets (i have FM sender hooked up to the system) I am planing on geting AUX and Tv in motion later for front passenger, (TV in motion units are expensive here so i will wait untill i am in the states to get one) i have IR sender that i have to mod so i can integrate it with car interior for that OEM look (have to get some IR Headphones to)

Very cool setup. I see you have the mysterious (at least to us in the USA) AV connector and TV switch. Can you explain how they work and what cable you use for the connector (did you get it from BMW?)? Thanks.

Tnx.
AV conector is factory install as wel as the TV switch, The AV Output wil provide fead from TV Tuner and mono audio, AV imput wil provide input to TV tuners AV channel and mono sound.
As for the cable there is offcourse expensive OEM cable, but you can use standard audio stereo cable with 3,5 plug and RCA on other end. It wil provide Mono sound on the red RCA and Video feed on the other one White or Black depending on cable type.
Tv switch wil when pressed change one tv station forward.
Weard thing is that You have to watch TV on main unit to get the fead on av output, so you cant listen to CD or radio while back passengers watch TV (unless u have Tv in motion module with that function) There is actually a thread about this input/output, where people have tried using it for ipod.

Wow. I'm totally confused, so please help me understand. Here are my questions.
1. I understand that you already have a factory TV tuner installed. So my understanding is that one of the front seat occupants needs to select "Television" on the nav display in order to watch tv, but then to change the channel you need to press the TV button that is on the rear of the center console, as though it was specifically for rear seat occupant use only. Is this correct? because it sounds incredibly weird.
2. The AV connector has an output and an input. If the tv tuner is already set up in the car, then doesn't it already have sound that comes through the cars speakers? If so, I don't understand how this connector works at all !?!?
3. Do you have ANY manuals or instructions that talk about this system that you can post (or send me) so that I can figure this out?
4. Do you happen to know the BMW part numbers for the cables that connect to the Input and Output of the AV connector, because I have searched everywhere and have never come across anything.

As a side point it really pisses me off that BMW builds the X5 in the USA, yet figuring out the A/V setup in non-USA cars is like planning a trip to the moon!

1. You have to select TV at the main unit in order to get the feed to the screan connected to the AV output in the back.
TV button is if the rear passangers want to change channels on their own, you can still change as ususal in front.
You can watch tv in back trough AV output eaven if you have no TV in motion the safety screan will show in front but not on the screan connected to the AV output.

2 it has output and input. I think the original idea is that you can connect a screan to a output and a dvd to input so rear passengers can watch tv and get sound trough car speakers, then change to av channel on the tuner and watch a DVD and still get sound trough car speakers (mono)

3. The input is mentiond in the car manual (or one of the aditional ones that came along)

4. Sorry but no, but as i stated befoure you can use regular Audio cable with 3,5 on one end and 2xrca on the other.

As for the car beeing made in US and you guys not having this option, wel i cant get skidplate it is not an option for europe only for the states.

This AV input/output is connected to the tuner in same way you would do if you buy some aftermarket adapter on e-bay or so that gives you AV input, the only diference is that it is factory mounted in the center console.
