Central Lock Button not working...

I've got a 2001 X5 4.4 sport, and my door lock/unlock button in the center console stopped working a few weeks ago.

It's really getting annoying not having it. I did have some coffee spill around that button, but that was over a year ago, and it's been working. Regardless, when I press it, it does feel "different". Like maybe it could be cleaned up, and start working again.

Can anyone give me any instructions regarding how to remove that button? I sure hope it's easy, and doesn't require removing the entire center console.

Thanks,
Andy

search

seriously this has been discussed 1 million times and 999

all you need is a screw driver, and a new switch ($25ish) part# 61318368920
when you have the new switch in your hand you'll easily see how to take out the old one, then unplug, plug and play.

I understand your frustration with searching for answers, but if the switch feels fine and nothing spilled on it ever, do you think replacing it will solve the problem of it not working. i just bought an x5 solved the rattle issue that people have but this is my next problem . thanks mr.eurosport.............

Before you go buy anything, make sure the fuse is fine.
