Help: No start

I was trying to change rotors and pads on my X5 when i ran into a little snag with the rotor bracket bolts and couldnt continue. Also i was running out of daylight so i decided to put everything back together and attempt the job another day. I went to start the car and all i heard was a lot of clicking and the HID's were flashing on and off. Has anyone encountered this or does this happen when the battery dies? Though nothing was left on in the car to cause the battery to die. This is my first BMW so im not certain what this means or what has happened. Its an '01 4.4.

Did you have your tunes on, and/or doors open while doing the brakes?

Could be coincidental that the batt. decided to croak...
No connection, that I know of, between the '01 brakes and
the battery or electrical/electronic system.

happened to my car a couple of times. I usually try again in a few hours and starts right away. It does happen when I work on it and use the radio for more than an hour.

It's the battery, the dreaded "click-click-click" and headlights "blink-blink-blink" is the tell-tale sign of a battery that's done. Try recharging, but that won't last more than a few days. Do you know how old your battery is at this point? You'll only get 4-5 years from a battery at best.

it could very well be the original battery that came with the battery from the factory.
