FIXED: X5 Shaking at Mid to High Speeds!
I got the car back from the dealer today. The official reason for the car's shaking and vibrating was:
Warped front-right rotor with a caliper that wasn't releasing right and as a result, a busted brake pad. The dealer also discovered uneven wear on the front-left rotor/pad/caliper, which they blamed on the damaging vibration from the right side. So now I have brand new front rotors, pads, sensors, calipers, and the system was bled. All for $0, and I'm one happy camper. ![]() The dealer also re-programmed something with the tranny, and she shifts really smooth now. It worked fine before, but I would get the occasional kick here and there. And to top it off, I've back-ordered a new odometer display since last week I suddenly noticed about 15 dead pixels. All of the items are being covered by the new-car warranty since when I reported in, I was at 79964 (new car warranty ends at 80000km). The CPO warranty still covers me to 120000km I think, but it doesn't cover items like wear-and-tear interior pieces, blown speakers, battery, brakes. It does cover the engine, tranny, differential, suspension, headlights, most electrical things, the actual radio tuner, etc. Not a bad deal. I guess I can't call in with peeling door handles anymore, but they have my azz covered with all the important mechanical stuff. The dealer's shop foreman said he hasn't seen any 4.4L V8 engines die on the X5 yet, no dead differentials, and only one dead tranny (due to owner getting stuck in mud). So I guess this thing will run for a while.
