Portable NAV attachments

For those that use portable NAVs, what type of attachments are you using with it? Windshield suction mounts? Vent clips? Any other possible solutions?

I'm thinking of using something like this from ProClip => http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionpa...d=&p_year=2004

Anyone have it on their X? Any suggestions or ideas would much be appreciated. Thanks.

not bad, but since a portable gps needs to "see" the sky, I doubt that this would be the best place to have it, which is why the windshield mounts are really the best.

Good point. That's why I wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with it. It puts the GPS at a locate where it may or may not see the sky depending on how the antenna is oriented on the individual GPS. But I do see some people that actually uses the ventilation clips and it does seem to work for them This is just a bit more secure solution than the vent clips. I really don't trust the windshield suction thing to be too secure holding onto a fairly heavy GPS.

If you use that clip, the GPS device will never get overheated

Comfort screen

Another thing to consider is the windshield.
If you have a comfort screen fitted (it has a blueish type appearence) this may also cause reception issue.
The coating that the comfort screen has will block RF signals and may cause poor GPS reception.

I have comfort glass, it doesn't interfere with my garmin gps. and in answer to the question, i use the bean bag "cross" mount that came with it and it sits on the dash, hasn't slipped off in 2 years.

Which gps do you have? those suction mounts are very reliable the only drawback is that when you take them off they leave a mark on the window, which of course, will come out with windex, but a bit of a pain...

I'm w/ Gresch. I have a StreetPilot 2610 which uses the bean bag mount that sits on the dash. Its very sturdy and the best way to go for my GPS.
