Unbelievable...

Check this X5 Forum. I purchased my 01 X5 4.4 back in January and it is a total joy to own and drive. With the exception of a couple small issues (pixels going out, clock spring breaking down), I have had only one TRUE problem on my hands. Whenever I made any sharp turns or turns at high speed, there came a sound from the back end of the car that was something like my son's Lincoln Logs or Tinker Toys rolling around. I mean, it sounds like a total yard sale. Nevertheless, this has bothered me enough to take a part the back end a number of times and low and behold! Found two screw drivers at the bottom of the compartment near the amp, CD changer and GPS. Ah ha! Took them out, went for a test drive and no more sound... until I heard it once again!!! So I had my wife drive the X around the block with my 3 y/o son and myself in the far back trying to figure out where that damn sound was coming from. In the process, she drove over a framing nail from a house being built down the street. $300 down the drain and could not isolate where the sound was coming from. Anything sharp or dull would have done the trick to do me in at this point. Finally after doing some yardwork last weekend, I rewarded myself with a cold beer and began thinking about that noise. So I took the whole rear interior out of the car and began searching again. The location of the two screwdrivers drew my attention again and there it was - another screw driver underneath the amp! This one was not that easy - you just couldn't reach down and grab it as it was secluded by the bracket that holds the amp into place. So after about 30 miniutes of fiddling with this, I was finally able to remove that damn screw driver and NOW I HAVE A RIDE WITH NO LINCOLN LOG, TINKER TOY OR SCREW DRIVER SOUNDS WHATSOEVER!!! Sheesh. Thought you all might enjoy the story - sorry for it being so long...

All my best to the X5 Forum!

great and very interesting story. But i'm glad you got it resolved and not a major issue like tranny failure or engine blown. :xoutpost:
