Help! Rear passenger window disapear

Good morning all,

We own a 2001 3.0 man trans for well... 7+ years now (Oct 2000).

Yesterday, on her way home, my wife hears a big noise from the rear passenger side: The window disappeared.

She tried to lift the window using the control but no go.

Once home, we looked through the door opening and sure enough the window glass is in the door like if it had came off the lifting mechanism.

We have an appointment to the dealer for Tuesday but I would like to remove the rear door panel trim and see if I could temporairly fix it until Tuesday.

Does anybody can guide me to the sequence of removing the passenger rear door panel trim?

Thanks

Marc

:xoutpost: and :welcome: to the Busted Window Regulator Club!

Here is the article on removing the door panel and replacing the broken regulator: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...nt-bmw-x5.html

If you are out of warranty, and have an extra sent of hands, you may want to replace the regulator following the DIY in the article I linked. The part will run you just over $100USD. You will pay over $500USD for the dealer to replace it.

Thanks Michelle for the link.

I will give it a try.

The car goes in for service due to lost of prestone (.5L/week).
I thought it was a small leak from a tube or something but now I saw some oil mixed with the prestone

Brake pad & rotor change and spring cleaning.
Looks like this service visit will hit few grand

I will try to get the door panel off and maybe raise the window back to close.

From what I can see, maybe the rail cable has broken and that is why the window glass just felt at the bottom of the door frame.

NovaX5,

You mean there is a possibility it is not the head gasket
