Gauging Interest: Turbo kit for the 3.0 guys

A good friend of mine is the man behind Technique Tuning, most known for their turbo kits on E36's and now E46's. He has an X5 3.0 as his personal vehicle and has been toying with making himself a kit, but is also considering producing one. I've been egging him on to move forward with it but he's unsure if people would be interested in it.

The largest issue is how many CALIFORNIA guys want one? The design of the kit would have to be changed to meet CARB exemption if the demand is significant. If it's not huge, the hardware for the standard kit he uses on the 3 series could be adapted since it's the same motor.

Power output should be ~300whp and similar torque. (The 3's make around 310-320 but have less drivetrain loss.) That would put it on par, if not faster than a 4.8is. Price in the $6800-7000 range

I have no financial affiliation to anyone, This is just trying to help fellow enthusiasts out! I've driven plenty of cars with his kits and they are badass. Feel free to browse the net to read up on others experiences(bimmerforums is a popular place).

Post up in this thread if you'd seriously consider doing this! I'll email him the link and push the issue for you guys .

I talked to Nick about this kit but the problem is most guys have auto 3.0's and that amount of torque would grenande the tranny's. The manual x5's will handle it no problem. Unless he can come up with a lower boost kit say 4-6 psi to drop the torque down.

Shouldnt be an issue since all that takes is a different wastegate spring.

The automatic tranny will be tested soon though. He's got a 330i with a slushbox now that's getting boosted next!

Lowering the boost shouln't be a problem with an external wastegate (wasn't sure if it would be internally gated or not). I also own an e36 m3 automatic w/ an AA turbo and that grenaded the zf tranny in less then 6 months (its now a 5spd !). I'll guess we'll!
