Hair Dryer saves the day again...
So I just got my X back from the body shop..i had to replace my front bumper and right fender...I waited 6 and a half weeks for my front bumper!!! the E53 front bumper was on back order from Germany!! Even the BMW dealership confirmed this...Unbelievable...Not a single OEM front bumper in the States....
Next, the body shop calls me and says we got all your parts bring it in and we'll take care of it. I said. No hold on....Paint my parts FIRST...then I'll bring it in, and you can slap on the parts and get it done in 1 day. The shop agreed. Of course a one day job turns into a 3 day job (body shops are never on time. I expect this actually) because they didn't order the right brackets for my bumper. ... Long story short, I picked it up today and I noticed condensation and fog all in my headlight casing..it wasn't there before. body shop says it must've got moisture in there when they power washed it. yeah...whatever....They say bring it back next week and we'll take care of it. Take care of it how? Being fed up, i get home and simply remove the headlight housing from my car, and I put a hair dryer on it and blow the hot air into the holes where my headlight bulbs would go. After about 40 minutes, the moisture is gone and i put it back on my X. looks like it worked. but we'll see the next time I wash it or when it rains hard. If the moisture comes back, its time for the body shop to buy me a new one.... |

typical problem. Just drive with your lights on when it happens again. The housings aren't water proof.

Lights mist over
VS-24/Pflügler Baugruppe/Group: 63
63 03 02 (921) weltweit all countries Datum/Date: 10/2002 Lights mist over E39, E53 Situation: One or more of the vehicles lights mist over. On modern plastic lens covers, this misting over can occur in unfavorable circumstances and does not necessarily constitute a defect. Unfavorable climatic conditions, e.g. a rapid drop in temperature with high air humidity (storm showers, car wash, underground car park), may result in more or less major streaks on the lights. Because of the geometrical design of the lights, there is uniform air distribution inside the light housing. Humid air brought in through the ventilation system thus reaches the cold areas of the lens cover relatively quickly and then causes misting. These traces of humidity are purely an optical defect that do not affect the light output or distribution, as the lens cover does not have any technical function in the lighting. After operating the light for some time (up to 15 minutes, depending on weather conditions and driving profile), the misting will disperse through the ventilation openings provided. Affected vehicles: E39 and E53 with plastic lens covers. Action: In case of customer complaint, explain the situation to the customer as described above. If the light should still be misted over after a lengthy operating period, or if drops of water larger than 1 mm diameter are formed, the headlight may be leaking. Known quality matters are explained in the relevant enclosure. E39, E53 Lights mist over (please refer to Enclosure 1) SI Lights mist over E39, E53 BMW AG - TIS 11.04.2008 21:04 Issue status (08/2007) Valid only until next DVD is issued Copyright Page - 1 -
