strange circle in tripometer?

Hi everyone,

i was just driving my X at night and noticed that there is a small perfect circle near the first digit of my tripometer. it is bigger than a pixel, and it is a little smaller than a pencil eraser, it is shaped perfectly circular. it is not lit and just stands out from the background... it is almost as if there is a light or sensor there of some sort?

does anyone know what this is?

i guess its called a trip odometer and not a tripometer! no wonder my original search didn't turn up any info!

nope, it isn't actually lit, i just noticed the circle for where the light is for the first time
