Help! Got tapped from behind by a taxi and...

...barely noticeable plastic scratches on the rear bumber, but the two inboard park sensors popped out, i am trying to replace them but now it seems such a tight fit (seems the trailer hitch cross mount right behind the bumber where the park distance sensors plug into now doesnt allow the sensor to plug all the way into the bumper)... i am not sure if it is normally such a tight fit with the trailer hitch hardware behind the bumber, or if the plastic bumper is now pushed in a bit due to the tap. i have noted now about 1mm of increased gap between the bumber plastic on the sides of the car and the metal rear fender (in addition to the ~10mm or so of normal gap, not the tightest tolerance there normally, as i've eyeballed couple other x5s). is anyone familiar with what is first to give on the rear bumper in the event of a tap, is there supports that may flex a bit, some sort of shock absorbers or the like that may compress a bit, etc?

ps - if there is any good news as part of this, the front end of the taxi was fairly crunched up, but no real visible damage that i can yet tell to the x5. the idiot taxi driver admitted he was reaching to answer his cel phone and wasnt looking.
