Might be selling my 4.8is.. S500 or 745??

From what I see, the 745i would be about the same cost wise as the X, so wouldn't be saving much money... A friend of mine bought a lease return 750i from wholesale auction for $25k-$28k and hasn't had any problems with it yet a year or so later, but when they have problems that are different than what the X5 would have it is usually electronic and control modules are expensive.
I personally would prefer an E60 550i if I had the choice of cars to get, maybe that one is in my future, post X5...  (not anytime soon though)

Talk to b-line, he moved from 4.8is to 750. As he puts...it just chugs along.
I have driven S500 and after 4.8is...you will not like its drive feel. Its opposite of 4.8is feel. Why not a 335 or 535 if you want to save money and have some driving fun.

Personally, if the X fits your needs I wouldn't change. The cost of the transaction (taxes, fees, financing, whatever) will make this an expensive venture. This cash can be deployed else where.
I always find it funny that people complain about something like mpg (maybe not in this case) then go out and spend money trying to solve the problem, only to get into an unknown situation with new repair costs or buy a newer car and take the depreciation hits, but never factor those costs into the decision. It is like when housing was skyrocketing but people never included interest, property taxes, housing repairs, etc into their 'investment' decision... Keep the X, go lighter on the gas pedal.

I agree with the fact that the 745i's have issues. Especially the first years. I also don't understand how going from an X5 to a top of the line BMW or MB sedan is going to "save" you any money. If you want to save money, sell your X and get an e46 or a 6-cylinder e39. Otherwise, keep what you have. Also, if you are just starting school I would imagine you are young. Why the big sedan?
