Replaced Clockspring ......

Hey you guys I had the clockspring replaced in the steering wheel hoping this would solve the sound coming from the steering wheel when turning.. and it didnt ... I had the clockspring replaced at Complete auto works in concord ca... The guys at the shop didnt charge me for the part since it didnt fix it... He had an idea on how to fix but it didnt come to him until the steering wheel was put back on already... My other problem is my horn didnt work so he told me to come back next tuesday and they will test his theory out on the steering wheel and maybe replace the horn with two new ones .. Ill keep you guys posted with the news on the steering wheel and the solution he used... I believe he said he has to remove a clip the keeps the steering wheel from locking and that clip is the one that makes the rubbing sound, he says that he did that to another x5 and it worked but he forgot about that and just replaced the clockspring... ill keep you guys posted...

I have the same noise...I thought it was either a ripped cv joint or an axle or something...but my independent mechanic was listening to it earlier this morning and he said it sounds like its coming from the steering wheel area inside the car.

Is it easy to drain the power steering fluid? I might try that...

hey u guys, just got back from complete autoworks and the guy removed the clip from the part in the steering wheel that he thought would get rid of the noise but it didnt work, but he did fix my horn and didnt charge for either the clockspring he put in or the horn that he fixed so I guess it worked out... but the noise in the steering wheel is still their, i think another member said they change the power steering fluid so this would be my next attempt at fixing this damn noise... i'll keep you guys posted, I am very determined to fix this noise even it if it costs me my home.. this noise will be gone before 2009....or I will join scientology and read L Ron Hubbard books the rest of my life...

I am getting the same clicking/clunk#%#% noise when I turn the wheel an inch to the left and back to the right. Took it to $ealer. Said that it's double joint Part#32306762277 realoem shows $191 + core. Quoted me for $650 installed...

Now I am thinking... How hard would it be to do it myself? Has anyone done it?

Edit: Dealer is doing a Goodwill (warranty ended 3 month ago, but has 45,900 miles). Replacing...
