Carbon Fiber hood for 2004 or later X5's

Hey guys, I know a Mercedes oriented aftermarket company that is making a bunch of Carbon Fiber hoods for E55's and what not right now.

I've talked with them to see if they might make us a Carbon Fiber hood for our E53's. 2004 model year or later, as that's what I have and I believe that's when everything forward of the A-Pillar was changed.

Obviously there will be a weight savings, not sure how much though since I'm still in pre-negotiations. It'll be less than half the weight of the stock hood.

Anyone interested? Price will be 829$ for the hood in black or regular carbon fiber. He's promised me that much. Silver will be 99$ more.
He needs at least 15+ orders.

Dont put a CF hood on a X5 please it's not a Honda Civic ( IMO ).

It's not like it'll be a rice mod.
The car understeers, so... reduce weight.

That'll improve the balance of the car as well.

You can always have the CF hood painted. No one will be able to tell by looking but you still have the weight savings.

due to the size of the X5...I dont think we are talking about a significant weight savings. While the hood is heavy...its not that terribly heavy and at near 50/50 weight ratio....I dont think you are buying much...I could spend the $1000.00 on something that will really give a performance boost like 10% down for the ESS supercharger....

Is the hood part of the crumplezone in a crash? if so, leave it, if not..do what you want to it imo.

My thought exactly... no sense in paying $1000+ for a carbon fiber guillotine.
BTW, for a lot less money, camber plates remove excessive understeer...

i think it'd look pretty cool.. for a show car, but on an average x5 w/ no mods a cf hood would look rediculous.

Yep you can.

pepatrick, I'm sure this car is at a 50/50 difference, but it still understeers. A lighter front end will help that. Also a lighter car overall will lower center of gravity.

andrewl: I have no idea if it's part of the crumplezone.

DinanX5, and then increase tire wear. I've really thought about camber plates, and they are also on my list of want to do mods when I get some cash. However, the CF hood also increases the look factor which I am also concerned about

Hansel: Who rides with no mods..

I'm just gauging interest guys, seems like the majority of folks would rather not have it. Darn
