Doesn't Start First Time
I have an intermittent issue, when turning the key the first time you hear a click in the engine bay but the engine does not start. Turn the key again and it always starts. Any ideas? It’s a 2001 4.4 Sport 30,000 Miles Thanks for your help, |

Does it do it every single time without fail? or is it just sometimes when it won't start on the first try?

Happens to me the odd time - not concerned though - always fires up on the second try.

As always a great response from this site.
Many thanks The fault happens every so often, not always. It can't be attributed to weather or previous driving style. It does not crank the engine just tries to. No evil metal on metal noises. Just a click and nothing. If I return the key to the first position and try again it always starts no problems. As my local independent garage (who charge £32 Per Hour) is only good for basic obvious stuff I think it may be a case of going to the dealership. In London, England my local BMW dealership wants £105 + Vat @ 17.5% so £123.37 or $246 US Per Hour. Out of interest any car under 4 years old requires a £146.87 ($293.75) Per Hour. Crazy! ! ! I have half a mind to start my own independent garage. I therefore would like to have had a good guess of the potential fault before being bent over the bonnet.
