OE Rotors for the X

I bought some OE rotors for my 4.6is the other week and painted the hats with G2, they came out great and will post pics when they are installed. However, when I took the rotors out of the box the face plates that the brake pads grab onto were covered in grey protective paint. I called the dealer thinking that the rotors were defective but the service manager told me this is something new that BMW is doing to their rotors to protect them during shipping, he said that heavy duty brake cleaner would remove this protctive paint. Obviously this stuff has to be removed before installation because it will foul the brake pads. This weekend I was going to take the brake cleaner that came with the G2 kit and try to remove the paint on the rotor's brake surfaces.

My rotors from SP Performance came coated with a zinc protective coating. It goes away as you use the brakes. I would not think there is any reason to remove it.

I also painted a set of rotors with VHT paint and it also came off during normal break in procedures......
