Windshield replacement

This morning on the way to school a huge rock came flying up from the road and hit my windshield about two inches above the wipers and left a nice big crack. The cracks spread out from the point of impact over an area a little bigger than a quarter.. The crack goes all the way through the windshield, too. Do I need to have it replaced, with winter coming and all? If so, how much will it cost? It's a shame, because the windshield was replaced just after I got the car, in February.

Put some clear tape over the crack so water doesn't get in. Then get it fixed at a reputable auto glass shop. If the crack doesn't spread in the meantime it should only cost you $20 to fix it. Time is of the essence. Once it spreads past a couple of inches it's unrepairable.

Do you have glass covered on your insurance? If you do and if the damage is bigger than the dollar bill then the insurance will replace the windshield. Otherwise you can always call Safelite and they will come to your work or home and repair or replace the windshield

Just had it done last week on the X-5. The dealer quoted $650 but my insurance company sent someone to the office with a bmw windshield for $410 of which my deductible was $250.
