Anyone been refused warranty work due to a modification???

Last week I had my 06 X at the dealer for warranty work to address the xenons for the third time, passenger door unlock for the third time and a service engine soon light. I've had a cold air intake on my X for at least 30,000 miles and apparently the mass air flow sensor is faulty but they won't service it because I have a cold air intake. They want to charge me $528.00 for a new MAFS. I asked the service person if Dinon (sp?) offers a cold air intake and if they would have serviced it if they installed that. She didn't know what to say. I also asked her how the intake could affect the MAFS and she also didn't know how to respond. So, for now I have not replaced it. What do you feel are my options? Should I put the original intake box back on and go to a different dealer for service maybe?

BMW's will only warrant claims on items that have not been modified, in your case the MAF is faulty which is part of the air intake system which has been modified. another example is if you fit an aftermarket performance exhaust they will not cover original cat converters fixed to the system. Some manufacturers wouldn't cover the MAF if you had aftermarket wheels because it has been modified.
Your best bet is to go to a different dealer with the original airbox put back in and they will then replace your MAF

If your aftermarket parts interferes in diagnosis or could be attributed to the error or faulty part, they will typically deny warranty service. I've been experiencing the same thing from my dealer. It's a fine line for them to walk on so they err on the side of caution to protect their dealer for taking any financial hit on non-warranty service. Try another dealer if your current dealer is not accommodating your vehicle, or you can remove the aftermarket parts and take it in.

Modified cars are noted in the BMW computer that all dealers use. 335 owners are learning this quickly. The days of "swap and change dealers" is over. BMW will blacklist your car and every dealer on the planet will know it.

You can buy a brand new one for less than that. Try www.autohausaz.com
