New Member - Transmission Issues

Hey folks, I currently drive an 04 4.4L X and discovered this site a few months back. I have taken the opportunity to read many posts regarding modifications, issues, etc. and your posts are extremely informative and beneficial.

I live in Western Canada and Wish to express my deepest concern and positive prayer for your citizens who have been so devasted by Katrina and her after affects.

Regarding my X - Have had it about one year and have 22,000Km's on it. Have had transmission issues since day one where the down shifts in sport mode were very choppy and aggressive. While slowing to a rolling stop and not completely stopping I would press on the accelerator and revs would go up for a few seconds before the transmission would engage so I would get a big jolt as it kicked in - very concerning. Have taken to the dealer several times and they have reprogrammed my trans. with the latest software which did improve the choppy shifts, however It still has the missing and engaging issue.

Yesterday I took it back to the dealer and suggested that its time to figure things out - They kept my car for the day (gave me a Z4 to tool around in for the day - that was fun) and advised me at the end of the day that they have rebooked me for a week on the 19th. They advised that they are not sure what is going on and may need to replace my transmission - I then discover they had to do this on a few other x's??

Is this an issue for other X owners?

BTW, while i was chatting with the technician he said to me that the BMW does really well mechanically but is a bit weak on the software side...hmmm.

I guess the frustrating aspect for me is the amount of time I have had to have my X in the shop with no results - Interstingly I had a 2002 Durango RT and put 90,000KM on it and it never had a problem - yes it is not the same car as the X, but it was half the price without a problem!

I don't perceive it to be a common problem, and fortunately you are still under warranty and the dealer seems to be at least acknowledging that there is a problem and is willing to work with you to resolve it.

and :welcome: to X5world

Happens to me when i get on her hard from a rolling stop!! Nothing bad but i do get a little lash here and there! Seems to me like my tranny's a little slow in choosing which gear it wants.

Hopefully the dealer is competent one and'll get the job done right!
