It may be the sunroof drains. I among others did some decent writeups on this before with good instructions. Here's the link:
http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...-problems.html Just be sure to thoroughly dry out UNDER your carpet as the foam padding is quite thick and holds water like a shamois sponge! You can get the top of the carpet to feel 100% dry and still have pools of water underneath...

The A-pillar covers are the interior trim cover that goes up the side of the windshield, and if you pop off the "airbag" plastic piece you will find a t-20 torx head screw.

Could be an issue with your air conditioner. Has anyone been messing around under the dash lately?

I had the same problem for about 5 months before BMW realized it was the sunroof drainplugs that were blocked (!?!) Stinky wet carpet was what i was left with!

The carpet holds soo much water underneath it... you can vacuum it till you're blue in the face! If you don't get to under it and dry it from underneath it will be a stinky situation with mildew and chance of rust and damaged electronics.

When I first noticed the water, BMW could not take my X in before i left on vacation, so I was told to put newspapers under the mat to absorb the water. I was changing an inch of paper each day and they were trying to convince me it was the snow, etc from my boots! Towards the end of winter (after many calls and trips to the stealer) did they recognize/accept that it was the sunroof that had already been changed twice.
The amount of water for such a long time was a concern for the rust, electronics, but they seemed to think it was unfounded ....we'll soon see... Turkeys!! |
