Clutch pedal - Annoying squeak!

Hello. I have a 6Spd MT and somehow my clutch pedal have that annoying squeaking sound. At first, I thought i'ts just the rubber pedal rubbing onto the metal part, so I took it off. Squeaking still, and I look under the steering wheel and noticed that it's the spring or hinge that's making the noise. I was told to try greasing it. Anyone else having this noise? Thanks..

Not identical situ, as ours is an '01, but I and a few others with
the manual trans have posted about this...mine squeaks on occasion
and then it will stop for awhile. No conditional diagnosis by me.

Way back, under warranty, I had the stlr look at it on its rare
trip in, and they tried silicone spray, WD-40, et al, with no real
success or cure. Way, way back on the old RoadToadBored, a
poster had the squeak and persisted until the stlr did a clutch,
flywheel, throw out bearing r&r.

It doesn't bother me that much and it doesn't seem to affect the
clutch performance, here at 65K+ miles.

it does not bother me much at all..what bothers me more than the squeaking is my wife constantly asking what that noise is and what can be done..etc. etc...so it's more of her asking me all these questions..including the hatch rattle..it's great that i found this board for some help. I'll do some DIY fix this weekend.

This is a known problem, it is because they use a plastic bushing. The squeaking gets worse as the weather gets hotter. UUC Motorwerks http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/ actually makes replacement bushings that permanently fix the problem. (Search for "clutch arm bushing")

I'm not sure if they will fit an X5 though...

Thanks for that info..I'll call them up to make sure it applies to X5 as well.
