10 days with axis deluxe pads.......

so my brakes were shot , big time and bmw quoted me $1650 for the job and i was like ...

anyway im getting a new truck soon like within a couple of weeks so i decided to just to do a pad slap !! just pads no rotors !!

mark at zeckenhaus helped me out he told me that i had two choices axis ultimate or axis deluxe !! the main diff is the compound , the DELUXE WAS LESS BITE BUT NO DUST THE ULTIMATE WAS SAME BITE AS STOCK AND SAME OR MORE DUST !! he said with the deluxe the car would get dirty before the wheels !! so i tried those

anyway i bedded them in the way they recommend and i must say although the pedal needs to be pressed harder the braking is quite good !! it took me a couple of days to get used to them but now its all good !!

now im sure if i did rotors aswell it would be even better but just the pads alone are a goood solution !!

now for the good part i got a car wash last tues and i have less dust then i would normally have in a 1 hr commute to the city for work !! if i'd get a wash before work by the time i'd get to the city the damn wheels would be gray then by the time i got home from that same commute they'd be black , i'd have to wipe them down !! not no more !!! its been 6 days and about 500 miles and they're still clean !! wooohoooo !!

so i give these pads a big a+ !!

neil

You actually had another option, but Zeck doesn't carry them. The Axxis XBG semi-metallic pads. They are pretty much the best compromise of the Ultimate and the Delux as they fall between those with regard to performance and dust. I have them on both of my cars and have been very happy with them as well.

Glad you are happy with the Delux pads, though.

Edit: I just saw that you have a 4.6is. I am pretty sure you could have used the XBG pads, but not 100%.

I installed the axis deluxe pads and new brembo (factory match) rotors which are solid -- not cross drilled nor slotted.

I bedded the pads as advised.

In my opinion, the new pad/rotor combination stops just as well as the original equipment.

The best part is they have been on for a couple of months and I've had zero brake dust issues. Night and day difference from the factory pads.

Plus the rotors have 2 dimples on each of them. If worn to 1st dimple --that means rotors are getting close to minimum spec. If worn down to 2nd dimple then replace rotors. A nice extra feature. You can see the dimples without removing the wheels.

That's a great feature!
