2001 3.0d sport not starting

Hi, I am New to this today, so apologies for trying to give all info...

I purchased my x5 2 weeks ago and have had trouble free motoring.

I have noticed that it took a little longer to start on the key than you would expect, however it has started everytime - until today......

After a 35 mile journey this morning the engine was switched off and the vehicle was left for 10 mins or so. On getting in and trying to start it all I got was the engine cranking over on the starter (albeit healthily).

After a short time and checking the fuel was pumping through at pressure I called the RAC, the guy came out and after a few turns of the key decided to squirt some 'easy start' into the air intake. The car started straight away and drove sweet as a nut the 34 miles back to the office (picking up some easy start on the way).

Back at the office it wouldnt start again, however, a squirt of easy start and we were away.

I had to use the car for some important meetings today and had to use the squirt on 4 more occasions, everytime the car runs smoothly.

My local garage seems to think it is a couple of injectors going down,(an over the phone analysis!) which they can replace tomorrow for about £500.00, I have noticed mention on other threads of fuel rail pressure sensors, could either of these be the answer?

Would anyone go for the sensor first?

Later in the day I did get a 'fuel injection system' signal on the check screen below the speedometer, which stayed on for the remainder of my journey, but reset when I revved up back at the office.

Any help please?

Check engine light on? Check the codes and that will tell you what's going on...if your shop just goes in and starts replacing stuff willy nilly it is going to be very expensive and probably won't fix it. Being good at diagnosing what is actually wrong with a BMW is what sets the good shops apart from the bad IMO...

What do you mean by engine light on? there are no warning signs staying on the instrument panel...

Any good shop can read the codes and determine the correct course.

Talking fixed, but for how long.....

Hi Everyone

No5 injector was 'leaking back' badly.
now starts in quarter of the time, every time, however, was informed that some other injectors were showing signs of the same thing, but not concerning the tech at the moment.

hiya, i had this issue and it was a nightmare, the easy start by the RAC helped but then it totally packed up on the motorway at 3am in the morning... i was so upset i wanted to burn the damn car because i only had it 2 weeks just like u, luckily it was under warranty, a visit to a very good independent mechanic (Broome Brothers) found out it was a faulty fuel injector which was leaking back, so it was changed (it costs £220 not £500...they r trying to rip ya) ...once changed car was back on the road...took the opportunity to do full service, change transmission oil and power steering fluid as well as a fuel system flush, car feels soooo good now!!
