Yeah.... I saw that one too.

I'm still in the hunt for one and a wiring harness.

look man as long as the 'hitch' is installed by bmw at the factory i.e you have a receiver but no ball your fine it doesn't matter who's ball you buy. If somehow and I can't think of how it would because it's standard equipment you don't have a factory installed 'hitch receiver' and you need to buy more than just the ball that slides in then buy all means go with bavauto.com they specialize in aftermarket parts for bmw's. However like I said you probably have the rail and receiver that was installed at the factory and because they don't know what size ball you want they don't include it. The factory rail is rated to like 3600 lbs thats more that the vehicle's gross weight. If you have the factory rail under the bumper then all you need is a $30 ball from any supplier and you can tow another x5 plus 400 lbs of cargo.

WTF are you talking about?

1. X5 E53's don't come with a factory receiver installed. It was intended to be a dealer install item.

2. An X5 does not weigh 3,600 lbs. More like 4,800 - 5,000 lbs without payload.

3. An X5 is rated to tow 6,000 lbs (5,000 lbs for 3.0 auto).

I just put a draw tite on. I wouldnt' do it again. It requires a lower bar that is connected to the cross member subframe that not only looks ugly, but also requires trimming of the bumper cover. The curtis hitch connects in the same places the OEM one does and doesn't require that bar. Besides all of the religious arguments about OEM or aftermarket, if going aftermarket, go with Curtis.
