Friend is selling 2002 X5 3.0 Should I Buy it?

I'm new to X5world but hope to spend quite a bit of time here in the near future...

I have a good friend who is looking to sell his 2002 X5 3.0. He is looking to get around $10k for it but that's due to the high mileage (almost 120,000 miles). It has been very well maintained, serviced on or before-time and is in very good condition overall. This will be primarily for winter but may be driven a bit during the year by my wife. If I go through with this purchase, it will be my first BMW. I have owned many other vehicles...Acura, Cadillac, Jeep., etc.. but never a BMW. I am looking for opinions as to whether or not this will be a purchase that will only lead to many trips to the repair shop due to the high mileage or if for the price, it appears to be a sound purchase.

Any opinions, suggestions and help in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
