Check Brake Lining Message

Just wondering when others on the board had to replace their brake pads. My 2001 4.4 X5 has 59K miles on it, and this will be the second set of brakes. I replaced all the pads, rotors and sensors in November of 2006 when the car had 36K miles. Is it normal for the breaks to go every 30K? Is there something else that can set this message off?

Thanks
JD

thanks for the quick response... I still can't believe I need brakes at 24K. Does anyone know a good place for OEM parts? I priced out Bimmerzone for rotors, pads and sensors for the front and back, and it was $475 - for Brembo rotors with Textar pads

go for Brembos + Arkebono ultra ceramic pads.
