I am getting ready to get my second X5 and I wouldn't get it without the sport package. The drive is awesome and I also have never had complaints on road trips, it's very comfortable. You were saying you have 18 inch wheels that comes with getting the sports package. I know that 17 is stock so maybe when you get the sports package you have your choice of 18,19 or 20. Since your in CA and don'thave to worry about the snow I would get the 19 or 20". They really sets your X5 apart from the others. It's one of the first things I notice.

When I was test driving X5's before purchasing, I drove 4.4 non-sport and sport models back to back. A few quick highway lane changes and high speed exit ramps immediately told me to stick with the sport suspension. Roll resistance is dramatically reduced without any real difference in ride comfort. I felt much more confident driving with the sport suspension.

I woundt buy a x5 without sport package or sport seats, everything else is kinda ugly imo.
