Opinions...anal or prudent

My X stays in the garage...always. I've gotten in the habit of pulling in and opening the hood (heat disipation). As heat is the enemy of any engine. Is this prudent or just a waste of time. When the engine is running the coolant does what it's supposed to do; shut down the engine and?????? I've looked around under the hood, everything is so sealed up it seems there's nowhere for the heat to go. Has anyone noticed how hot it gets under the hood of a 4.4i after it's driven for a good while on a hot summer day? Kind of goes along with the don't slam the door briefing, most people close the X5 doors way too hard, as heavy as they are you can't help damage some of the internals.

Opinions on a slow Saturday night??

If the motor really needs it, there is an auxiliary fan that kicks in and continues for a few minutes after the ignition is turned off. In about 64300mi in our X3, this has only happened 4 times.

I mean honestly; don't you think BMW took all that into account when they designed your vehicle? But if you can find somewhere in the manual that requires you to open the hood while it's in the garage then go ahead.

But here's a question for you. When you're out during one of those hot summer days and you decide to go shopping for a while, do you believe it would be prudent open the hood while you're gone.....

bmw does alot of its heat testing in dubai and im sure that its much hotter in the sand dunes after whipping the x around for idk 6 hours then it is after you driving to the mall.

opening your hood is not enough. i say convert your garage to a giant storage cooler. that way you can keep your engine nice and cool and keep a case or 2 of beer always frosty.

It's funny what kind of posts get responses, I like the garage cooler idea. I thought at the least my garage would be warm during the winter months. All responses taken with a light heart, keep em coming!
