hi all

i recently purchased a 2002 X5 while I was out in Texas. the car is was first owned in Arizona and then went to Texas so it is rust free. i do have a few questions, i will search for the answers to them later but if anyone could answer these for me then it would be great.

1. i am unfamiliar with the 4.4 bmw engine (ive owned mb all of my life), does it have a timing belt or chain. if belt, at what intervals does it need to be changed?

2. what grade oil does the car take?

3. my car is equipped with xenon headlights, but i have an opportunity to get lexus bixenon projectors, bulbs, and ballasts. is the retrofit a tough install? also, the lights on the car adjust automatically, will this be impacted once the headlights would be removed for the retrofit?

EDIT: the car has nearly 71K miles, is there any major service that i should be aware of?

Check the front page of this site, it will have the answers to a couple of your questions. The "lexus light" question, I don't know. I don't think that would work.

Keep an eye on the transmission and window regulators, they are routine failures in the X5.

Welcome. The 4.4 engine uses timing chains. The oil reccomended is 5W-30 synthetic. If you car has xenon, why change it? There should be a service manual with the car to indicate service intervals.
