iPod, BlueTooth and iPhone
I have an iPod Classic that I want to hook up to my '04 X5 (E53) and I also want to use my iPhone 3G in the car. Since I may want to do both at the same time and in any case they require different sized 'docks' I need 2 docking locations. My thoughts are as follows:- I don't need to see the iPod (it will be connected through an Intravee and controlled by the car systems) and more importantly, it may remain in the car for most of the time and therefore needs to be hidden, whereas the iPhone will need to be installed and removed every time I get in the car for anything other than very short journeys (so it can be charged). Besides which, if BT connection to the X5 is as flaky as often reported, it will be crucial to be able to actually see the phone. For these reasons I really want:- - iPhone fitting into a Spec Dock hidden under the ashtray flap when not in use, but very quick to insert and remove the device (i.e. iPhone). - iPod installed into iPhone type adapter fitted into the 'eject box' under the centre armrest. Still easy to get in and out, but can remain there out of sight while in the car. Ok, so. I need to get:- - a Dock type cable to the eject box, from the Intravee, i.e. not use the eject box's default connection. - simple power connection to the Spec Dock, i.e. no iPod interface required. Has anyone done either of these? Maybe the Spec Dock is available just for charging an iPhone, I've not asked BSW yet, but I doubt it would be hard to arrange. I'd particularly like to know if anyone has fitted an iPod into the eject box location under the armrest - in a cradle so it can be easily fitted and, er, ejected:-) Just hoping someone may have done it all before and save me time having to figure it all out first hand. Thanks. |
