Another fuel thread.

So I was reading on Yahoo about the fact that it is ok to put 87 octane on our cars, given the prices on gas I have been considering using 87 on my X5, I have been using 89oct for a while now and I haven't had any problems at all (knock on wood).
I know that this has been discussed many many times but, what the hell, here's the article:

I've been using 87 in my X5 almost from day one! No issues! If it pings I'd step it up a notch again, however mine hasn't and my fuel milage is uneffected.

I don't get it, sorry. The difference in gas is what...lets say it is 20 cents between 87 and 91 octane, given a 20 gallon tank you'd save a total of: $4.00

Is that worth it? Even if you filled up every week, you'd save about $18.00 a month...or 216.00 a year.

It is if there is no performance decrease. 87 is likely to have some decrease, but if not, it is $216 in the pocket. Better than giving it to Exxon.

In CA the difference is more than .20 cents. Every penny helps.

I don't know about everyone else but I put in what the manufacture suggests? Its like puting cheap oil in the motor to save an extra few bucks. Just my 02 cents
