Is there such a thing as a BMW owned dealer? Thanks

I doubt it. I would assume that BMW wouldn't want to alienate their customers (in this case, their dealers) by competing against them with their own dealerships.

Yes, there are. We had one locally for some time, not sure if they have offloaded it yet or not.
BMW, like other manufacturers, occasionally pulls a dealership. In that case they may end up with a dealership on their hands until they find a new dealer principle to sell it to. It isn't generally their strategy to own dealerships, it is more of a timing issue. Interestingly, when I dealt with a factory store locally for parts, the service was not to the same standard as the other three local dealerships. Could be the management change, not sure, but it was worth driving further to get to one of the others. It may have been resolved now, I stayed away for so long that I am not clear if a new owner has been brought in.

BMW of Manhattan used to be factory owned.
Westchester BMW in New York is said to be factory owned. |
