Opinions: 01 vs 02 x5 4.4i

I'm looking two potential X5s at the dealer ship that are both certified. The 01 27000 miles and the 02 has 42000 miles. The 01 has less mileage but the 02 has an extra year of warranty. The price difference between the the 01 and 02 is $3000 and they are both in mint shape and have the same options.

Any opinions on which year to take. I've read that the 02 is of better quality than the 01 (but some have rebutted this )

Thanks to all that read and reply

The 2002 isn't "better quality" than the 2001. However, it is probably less buggy since ANY product will become more and more perfected over the years of production.

Plus you have to consider your options when one day you are going to sell. The 2002 already has more miles, however if you want to sell one day, you will have a car with a newer model year.

On the other hand, if these cars are right on the dot of your budget, you should obviously get the 2001 for $3000 less and with fewer miles. You might use some of that pocket change for some accessorizing!

does the 01 has any original warranty left? How many owners have each of them had before? As I would choose the one with the least amount of previous owners. Did you check the vin # on Carfax? Have you been able to look at the records for both of the cars?

I would get the '02. I had a friend who had an '01 and it had alot of electrical problems. Also, read in consumer reports that the '00 and '01 had very poor reliability.

What build date are the '01 and '02 ? (check the door jam sticker on drivers side)
They could be as close in age as one month; as distant as nearly 24 months !

Also, check with the dealer on their service records ? Any significant and recurring issues with either one ?
