Donegal TDI is on a distinguished road
Range Rover connections

As I walked past a high spec Range Rover recently, I couldn't help but notice the NAV display unit, same as the one in X5, obviously technology shared during BMW's brief flirtation with Landrover.
My question is this:
RR's nav units also work off road, bread crumb trail left on display when not driving on digitally encoded routes.
Anyone know anything about this, as to how it is/was implemented?
How it differs from BMW's nav system?
Different harware used, nav computer, or is it running different software?
Thanks!

The nav drive in the LR has different software in it that provides that functionality.

In my experience, even if you go 'off-road', it keeps track of where you are, and guides you to the closest road pertaining to you route. Has come in handy when I had NO idea where I was.
