Aux heater on diesel

Anyone got this?
How effective is it?
As diesels don't warm up as quickly as gasoline engines, It's supposed to independantly burn some diesel fuel to provide additional heating to the passenger compartment?

Mine also has TWO aux ventilation settings on the computer. I set the timer the other day and the vents came on as planned but not warm. I think you can have ventilation or/and heating fitted, I think mine just has ventilation. I cant see why anybody would want timed ventilation tho?

Also the aux heating comes with a seperate remote control so that you can set the car warming from your house and it`ll be ready when you get in it. I dont have this remote so I`m assuming I just have ventilation.

Aux Ventilation

I will defiently play around with it later. Guess the engine needs to be on if you want to have AC/heating!! i guess.
But if you dont drive your X5 often ( not sure why u wouldnt) then guess some air circulating around the car can only be a good thing!
Anyone else have any comments about the AUX VENTILATION

The Aux Diesel burning heater comes with the remote control. This works specifically with Diesel (something else that will alter your fuel consumption figures!)and is usefull if you leave your car outside overnight in winter(dont know who would do that!)and you can programme it to come on ,say 15 minutes before you get in the car so that you interior will be warm and all your windows defrosted when you get in.To use this heater YOU MUST ensure that you have enough Diesel in your tank!
The ventilation system works with your A/C and you can programme it in those hot summer days so that when you get in the car ,it is nice and cool.Dont recommend that you programme it for longer that 20 mins as it will drain your battery.
Demondali, none of these need to have the engine on,as one consumes Diesel directly ,the other drains your battery.I have never used either option because my car is garage overnight and the Auto A/C is very fast in reaching a cool temoerature in those hot days.Bmw recommend, however, that you use your fuel burning heater periodically..........

This is what I understand....

I've had a look into this and this is what I've found......

The Aux Heater is a dealer option on the cars this allows you to set a timer to warm the car up.

I don't have Aux heater on my car, but can set the Aux ventillation. All this does is to remove hot air from the car using the standard "dash board" fan (I don't think this uses aircon as this requires the engine on the run the compressor)....but if left on for long enough, the fan motor will flatten the bettery, it can draw a lot of current.

Now...having looked at my car, there is a Webasto diesel heater under the bonnet, there is also a small exhaust pipe under the front passenger floor (i.e. the exhaust for the heater). From what I understand, the Webasto heater operates when the engine is cold and helps bring the engine temperature up quicker, therefore providing warm air to the inside of the car quicker.

As all the componetnt parts exist on the car (i.e the pre heater and Aux ventilation) there must be a software upgrade to get the Aux preheating to work

I think this question was posted before but with no response.

What I'd like to know is if automatically in winter it starts to pre-heating the engine or i have to set it in the navigation panel and start with the timer?

You either set it in the computer or use the remote you got for the aux heater.

is the AUX ventilation pre set for a certain length of time?

30mins i think? anyway to reduce this to about 5mintes thus less drain on the battery? should be a timer to switch it off.
