ac fan not running
Hi All, was out the car today and as always in scotland it was raining. I had the ac on but thought it sounded quiet, then noticed the fan was not ramping up or down and not on at all. any ideas?

Yeah,
Final AC stage resistor located on transmission tunnel under carpet in cabin.
About $180 for part and fix from BMW. Common problem, mine has gone out twice. Kind of like a fuse with funny looking probes. |

Yes, it's the final stage resistor. Easy fix. There's a DIY here:
http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/m...placement.html It's about $90 in Canada (just the part, new, at the dealer). Just remember that the new one the dealer will sell to you will most likely not look like the one you will pull out from your car. Interesting enough, when mine went the battery started being drained as well and the dealer said it's a common enough problem. As soon as I replaced the resistor, the fan worked (of course) and the battery draining issue went away as well.
