Steering Column Motors

Last week the battery on my X5 died, after probably a week of no use it died out.

So I charged it with my car and jumped in the X5 and sure enough the steering wheel moved. It didn't move in months as I thought the motor died (they are known to go easily).

This week I hit the unlock button and jumped in and the wheel again retracted to the far back position but it wouldn't move anywhere else.

Backtrack 6-7 months ago when I was told my steering angel sensor needed to be replaced as the light was coming on (which since has turned off).

Do you think my steering angle sensor is the gone (and for some reason the light isn't coming uip on the dash) and that is why my steering adjustment motors aren't working? When the motor died the first time neither one would go up or down.

Okay, FYI the steering wheel motors do fail - had to replace my in/out motors about 6 months ago (12/00 build) - dealer wanted to replace the up/down, but I never use those - the new ones groaned abit at the beginning, but smoothed out to quiet effeciency within about a month

Obvious that they fail.

Odd that both fail at same time.

That's just it, the up/down still worked, just a dealer ploy for more $$$
