Sport Mode or Auto

Guys is it healthy for the transmission to drive it on "sport mode" once in a while? or it doesnt matter? I really dont drive it too much on sport mode... I wonder if its healthy for my trainny to change once in a while... i noticed that i spend more gas on sport mode.... any sugestions?

Sports mode is just a software change, it simply alters the speed in which the gears change (lets it rev more before changing) and probably gives it a little more gas.

I think it is good to wind out the engine every now and then. Knock some carbon off them valves. Make you grin :p and justify why you pruchased this machine above all the others

It will make no difference in tranny health.

You'd think that sport mode would be better for it because it quickens the shifts in addition to holding gears longer, which is better for the transmission.

I actually use Sport mode almost all the time... and more often than not, I shift manually - especially in stop and go traffic, or cruising around town at low speeds.
And FWIW, I haven't seen much, if any difference in gas mileage b/w Sport and Economy modes. Depening on your driving style, holding the gear longer (where the torque is) can actually be easier on your mileage.

I only use sports mode when I need to overtake a slow driver. Before I bought the X5, I had an audi A6 manual, I always felt that I needed to thrash it and overtake everybody but now that I have the X5, I relax much more, let the car do the work for me and enjoy the ride much more. It`s the best (maybe most expensive too) move I ever made.

I've heard this before, but I don't think it's true in the X5 (although I know it is true in the M3)... can anyone confirm for sure whether or not the X5's Sport mode changes the throttle mapping?

How bout this question..

What if im going down a steep hill.. and as some of you know the X5 seems to have weird shift points, so if you brake just a bit when going down the hill it just drops to the lowest gear so it slows down w/ the engine. That doesnt seem to healthy for the engine so I like to pop it into neutral sometimes when going down a steep hill.. now is it bad to engage it into drive while the car is in motion at like 40mphs..?
