don't expect an answer from anyone here unless it has something to do with a silly mod or if there has been a mention of this problem in a random thread 4 yrs ago because they will all expect you to search rather than help...if i knew the answer i'd help you but im still waiting for some help on other posts i've left...good luck man

I had a similar problem, random electrical malfunctions. Sometimes the doors wouldn't unlock, wipers would go on for no apparent reason, rear hatch would pop, a number of odd things. I had an old battery, 8 years, and the gremlins went away when I charged it. They went away completely when I replaced the battery. I concluded that because the X5 takes so much power, when the battery was low the components were getting an insufficient supply and this caused the random malfunctions. Not very scientific I'm afraid but you could give the battery a boost and see if it helps. Good luck

Have you checked the wiring diagrams in the Online WDS link on the top of the page?

I can't check it myself from home as it works best with windows with explorer and all the flash and java apps fully updated, I'm on firefox on a mac... If I remember right, all the relays for central locking and the control of the wipers may both be linked to the general module. I'd try to navigate your way around the WDS and find what common components both systems have. That will show you what fuses, relays, modules etc. are involved. GOOD LUCK

Ok, I tried again and couldn't pull up the wiring diagram depiction due to my operating system as stated before, but was able to confirm that both the central locking and wipers are controlled by the general module.
