You should have bought the extended warranty before yours ran out. I'm not sure you can buy the BMW extended warranty once yours lapses.

There are lots of aftermarket warranty companies out there, but do your homework

Anybody have any idea how much the extended warranty cost. I am about to purchase a 2004 X5 with 18k miles on it. It will still be under factory warranty for a while, but I think I would like to extend it out like a CPO car.

No reason to buy it now. Right now, an actual Bumper-Bumper costs anywhere from $2500-3000.

P:
Currently, the MSRP is $3249 for the BMWMutha official ext Warr.
That's for only 2 years! Pretty pricey, imo.

I just pulled the trigger on one from WarrDirect for 2 Gs.

Actually if you know you are going to keep the car its better to get the extension right away because the price increases every year. I got my 2 yr extension for $1595, my 04 car is worry free until 2010.

Pepatrick, is that the car you were looking at at Carmax? If yes why do not you ask about their warranty. I bought my X5 from Carmax several months ago. I got a 3 years 36k coverage for $17k. It already paid for itself. Recently due a to a weird coolant circuit leak issue I had the whole cooling circuit (cooling fan, radiator, hoose, Thermostat, Water pump, etc..) replaced at NO cost. Their warranty works well.

Are we mixing apples and oranges? It sounsd like he's wondering about the extended maintenance plan versus extended warranty. They are different products. I bought a one year extended maintenance plan for about $350 and it paid for itself and then some with a set of rear pads and rotors.
