happens to almost every air susp x5 !! one of the many stupid stupid stupid airride parts has failed or is failing !!
to save a trip to the dealer i'd try the fuses , but then again if you said it went away then not a fuse !! mine have gone away for times but not forever !!

If you do a search here for "self level suspension inactive", you will find lots of us have had the same error message. Unfortunately, it can be caused by a variety of things. Read THIS thread for some suggestions. Usually it is easy to fix.

One of the X5 unexplained gremlins. I got this error message about a couple of times in my many years of ownership. Drive the car and if it does not come back after few hundred miles I would not worry.

yeah i reset my engine and everything was fine. i read the other threads about this, i guess if it comes up again ill look more into it.
