Need help and opinions on headlight lens fix..creative minds needed here!

ok....I apologize for the not so good shot..the sun is killimg me today with glare..but if we look hard over the lower bottom right of the high beam you will notice some flaking/peeling/chipping of the lens....my goal here is to fix this and then 3M both my headlights and fogs....and yes I know that down the road it may turn color but I would rather have that happen and replace the film then have this disease spread over my whole lens.....What can i do to smooth this out or repair this flaking...I have read about 1000-2000 grit wet sand or some repair kits....Any suggestion here would be greatly appreciated....Again sorry for the crap shot, best i could do....
